" Every time we read to a child, we're sending a 'pleasure' message to the child's brain...conditioning the child to associate books and print with pleasure." Jim Trelease, author of "The Read Aloud Handbook"
The Oak Bluffs School Volunteer Reader Program's wheel's are in motion and we are off to a great start! This is the program's third year, and we are looking forward to another successful year thanks to all of the volunteers that graciously dedicate their time to work with our children.
The journey you are about to embark on will be fun and fulfilling for all involved. The students will enjoy a story, while you will be rewarded with the knowledge that you have given hope and confidence to a struggling reader.
The volunteer schedule is complete. I am very happy to say that we were able to accommodate all teacher requests this year!! I know some of you have begun reading already, but if not you are all set to begin next week. If you need clarification regarding your volunteer assignment, please contact me.
Please remember to check in at the main office. There is an Oak Bluffs School Volunteer Reader name tag for each of you. We ask that you wear it while you are in the building, and return it when you leave.
On behalf of the children, and the staff, we would like you to know that we appreciate your commitment to our school and our children.
Thank you for "inspiring the next generation of readers".
